Epiphyllum grandilobum is a species of plant in the genus Epiphyllum from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet grandilobum means '(lat. Grandilobus) large-lobed'.

description

Epiphyllum grandilobum grows liana-like with shoots up to 100 (and more) meters long . The fast-growing shoots are reddish when young, later green and have plenty of roots. The width of the shoots varies from 3 to 5 centimeters to 15 to 25 centimeters. Their heavily thickened midrib is often lignified. The edges are wavy-lobed with crooked lobes.

The tubular, funnel-shaped flowers appear laterally. The curved flower tube is 32 to 38 centimeters long. The outer bracts are greenish yellow, the inner ones are cream-colored and translucent.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Epiphyllum grandilobum is distributed in Costa Rica and Panama in the Atlantic rainforest at altitudes of 250 to 900 meters. The first description as Phyllocactus grandilobus was published in 1902 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in the genus Epiphyllum in 1913 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT)", d. H. listed as low risk.
