Epitaph for Conrad Schlanhof
The epitaph for Conrad Schlanhof is located in the Walpurgis Church in Alsfeld , a town in the Vogelsberg district in Hesse . The baroque epitaph was created in 1633.
Field of view
The middle part of the epitaph is embedded in baroque architecture, which is bordered at the bottom by a base and at the top by a profiled cornice . Laterally decorated columns frame this middle section. In the lower area, the members of the Schlanhof family are shown kneeling in devotion. Above it, a profiled frame with a segmental arch surrounds a resurrection scene according to Mt 28 EU .
Inscriptions
A cartouche crowned with putti with the Latin text of Joh 11.25–26 EU stands above the image field .
The lower end is a Latin biographical inscription. After that Conrad Schlanhof lived from 1552 to 1633 and was "Senator" and "Consul" as well as church elder in Alsfeld. He married three times, with the last woman - all are listed with names and dates of life - he was married only 35 weeks until his death. His son Conrad Schlanhof and his son-in-law Johann Eberhard Seltzer set the epitaph for him.
