Epukiro
Epukiro is a settlement and administrative seat of the constituency of the same name in the Omaheke region in the east of Namibia . It is located about 93 kilometers north of the regional capital Gobabis on the edge of the Kalahari .
In 1997 the population of the scattered settlement was estimated at 3200 people, mainly Tswana .
Epukiro has schools and a sports field.
history
Epukiro was founded in 1902 as a Catholic mission that acquired the 30,000 acre farm of the same name. The rivier of the same name gave the farm its name . In 1904 the Oblates of the Immaculate Virgin Mary opened the mission station . It was destroyed just a year later as part of the Herero and Nama genocide . In 1905 a post office was opened in Epukiro.
Until the 1970s, which consisted Herero - Reserve Epukiro that of the South African was founded administration.
