The Epupa Falls ( English Epupa Falls ), in Angola also Monte Negro Falls , are located in the course of the Kunene , the border river between Namibia ( Kunene region ) and Angola ( Namibe province ). In Otjiherero , epupa means "foam", alluding to the foaming of the falling Kunene.
description
The height of the falls is about 40 meters. Due to the inflow of various water-rich rivers from the highlands of Angola, the Kunene in Namibia is the river with the highest flow speed. It washed out narrow gorges in the otherwise arid Kaokoveld . The place Epupa is not far from the falls.
Economic use
The economic use of the Epupa area, through a hydroelectric power station , was postponed after there were decisive protests by the last semi-nomads of Namibia, the Ovahimba , who lived there. This is now (as of November 2015) to be built near the Baynesberg .
