Ercole de 'Roberti (* around 1450, † 1496 ), also Ercole Ferrarese , was a painter of the Italian Renaissance .

life and work

De 'Roberti was a student of Francesco del Cossa and Cosmè Tura and, like them, belonged to the so-called School of Ferrara , a group of artists who worked as court painters for the noble family of the Este in Ferrara . From 1487 he worked exclusively for the court in Ferrara.

De 'Roberti painted pictures of religious, mythological and historical content. He also painted mythological scenes on the wedding chests popular at the time. He was one of the artists involved in furnishing the salone dei mesi in the Palazzo Schifanoia in Ferrara with monthly pictures .
