Francesco del Cossa
Francesco del Cossa (* around 1435 in Ferrara , † 1477 in Bologna ) was an Italian Renaissance painter from the Ferranes school .
life and work
Francesco del Cossa was mainly active in Ferrara, where he was one of the main representatives of the Ferranes school with Cosimo Tura (around 1430–1495) and Ercole de 'Roberti (around 1450–1496). He and Roberti participated in the painting of the salone dei mesi in the Palazzo Schifanoia in Ferrara. The fields in March, April and May are best preserved of the frescoes in the monthly pictures . These fields are attributed to Francesco del Cossa.
At the beginning of the 1470s, after not receiving the desired attention in Ferrara, he moved to Bologna, where he painted an altarpiece for the Griffoni Chapel in the Church of San Petronio (1473). The main panel is now in the collection of the National Gallery in London.
