history

At the time of the Ferranes School, the Duchy of Ferrara was ruled by the Dukes d'Este , who strongly encouraged the art in their possession through numerous commissioned works.

Cosmè Tura himself had received his training from Francesco Squarcione from Padua , who was also the teacher of Andrea Mantegna and possibly Carlo Crivelli . He was influenced by the style of Piero della Francesca , which can show the diverse origins of a Ferranes school , which even then are also important representatives of the art of the Quattrocento.

The influence can be traced into the 16th century and beyond.
