history
Beginning of pasta production in Erfurt
With the acquisition of Erfurt citizenship, the merchant and pasta maker Johann Peter Belling began producing pasta in the Erfurt site in 1793.
Erfurt was occupied by French troops during the Napoleonic Wars from 1806 to 1814. During this period, Johann Peter Belling made pasta specifically for the soldiers. He was arrested during the siege of the Petersberg in Erfurt and died before 1816.
After Belling's death, the company was continued by his widow, Anna Sabina. In 1825 the son Anna Sabinas and Johann Peter Bellings bought the copper hammer mill in the Erfurt district of Ilversgehoven. Production was relocated to this location.
Anna Sabina Belling died and the mill in Ilversgehoven was sold. The pasta was then produced again at the original production site at Johannesstrasse 136.
Era Noodle North
In 1860 the pasta factory was taken over by Ferdinand North.
Ferdinand North had the breakthrough 23 years later. He developed the "homemade egg-cut noodle", which drove the sales figures up. In 1884 the Northschen noodle factory moved to Roonstrasse 16 in Erfurt.
At the beginning of 1896, Ferdinand North's two sons, Georg and Johannes, took over the pasta production and trading business. Johannes North left the company four years later. In early 1904, at the World Exhibition in St. Louis, the company received the gold medal for the outstanding quality of the pasta from Erfurt.
The family tradition was continued in that in 1922 the sons of Georg North, Hans and Gerhard, became co-partners of the newly founded OHG. Georg North died in 1924.
As a result of the global economic crisis in 1929, the OHG Ferdinand North made major losses in the period from 1931 to 1936. After the major consequences of the economic crisis had been overcome, World War II followed . Sales increased as pasta was very popular in both the civil and military sectors.
After the Soviet occupation in July 1945, Hans North assumed sole representation and management rights in December 1945.
Consumer pasta factory
After partial administration in the years from 1946 to 1948, the company was expropriated and renamed “KONSUM - Pasta Factory Erfurt”.
In October 1948, shortly after the expropriation, Hans North was arrested and two years later sentenced to 15 years in a labor camp for espionage. After his early release in 1954, North moved to Gütersloh. The "KONSUM - Pasta Factory Erfurt" was incorporated into the newly founded consumer combine Markkleeberg in 1966.
Erfurter Teigwaren GmbH
At the beginning of 1990 the company was separated from the consumer combine. From July 1, 1990, the company worked independently under the name "Erfurter Teigwaren GmbH". In 1996 the company moved to Eugen-Richter-Straße, the current production location.
The Heyl family bought Erfurter Teigwaren GmbH from the consumer association in 2001. In 2004 Gerhard Gabel became managing director. Various restructuring and product realignments were implemented. Production has quadrupled and the number of employees doubled. The company specializes in large-scale production for trade and industry and has consciously no longer had its own brand since 2006.
On January 1, 2015, Hamburger Lampe Privatinvest Management GmbH took over the shares in the family holding company Emphor GmbH & Co. KG and has since acted as the majority shareholder in Erfurter Teigwaren GmbH.
