Erhard Meyer-Galow

Erhard Meyer-Galow (* 1942 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German chemist and industry manager , author, speaker and benefactor.

life and work

He held leading positions in the German economy, including as CEO of Brenntag AG , Hüls AG , Stinnes AG and a member of the board of VEBA AG .

In 1998/99 he was President of the Society of German Chemists (GDCh). In this role, he advocated the connection between business and chemistry, founded the Vereinigung Chemie und Wirtschaft (VCW) and was responsible for establishing an endowed professorship in business administration for the natural sciences and especially chemistry at the University of Münster . In 1998 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . He is an honorary professor at the University of Münster, where he has given lectures on " Business Chemistry in the Chemical Industry" for many years .

He has been practicing Zen meditation since his active time as an industrial manager. The psychotherapist and Zen teacher Karlfried Graf Dürckheim was pioneering for Meyer-Galow and he was also influenced by Willigis Jäger and Walter Schwery. He gives lectures on business ethics and also on spirituality.

Since 2012, Meyer-Galow and his Meyer-Galow Foundation for Business Chemistry have been promoting innovation in the chemical industry through the Meyer-Galow Prize (endowed with 10,000 euros). It is an award in the field of business chemistry under the umbrella of the GDCh, which recognizes researchers for sustainable innovations in the chemical industry. The purpose of the foundation is to promote researchers who recognize and exploit interdisciplinary interfaces and who ultimately promote human benefit.

Meyer-Galow has been President of the Humboldt Society since 2019
