Eric Anslyn

Eric V. Anslyn (born June 9, 1960 in Santa Monica ) is an American chemist (bio-organic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry ). He is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin .

Life

Anslyn received his bachelor's degree from California State University in Northridge in 1982 and received his PhD from Caltech in 1987 .

His group deals with molecular recognition, i.e. the synthesis and analysis of artificial or biological receptors, for example for diols , enolates , hydrocarbons, catechol , enantiomeric ratios. In doing so, they imitate the natural biological sensors for smell and taste.

He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and was an Arthur C. Cope Scholar and an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow from 1994 to 1996 . Anslyn was awarded the James Flack Norris Award for 2019 and the Centenary Prize of the Royal Society of Chemistry for 2020 .
