Eric Scott Montross (born September 23, 1971 in Indianapolis ) is a retired American basketball player .

career

Montross played as a teenager at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, where he set the school team's top marks with 1873 points and 1264 rebounds. From 1990 to 1994, the 2.13 meter tall indoor player belonged to the college team of the University of North Carolina under coach Dean Smith . In 1993 Montross became champions of the first NCAA division with North Carolina , his teammates included George Lynch and the German Henrik Rödl . Montross led North Carolina in the championship season with 15.8 points per encounter.

In the  1994 NBA draft , he was selected ninth by the Boston Celtics  . However, he rarely lived up to the high expectations that his successful time at the University of North Carolina had raised in the NBA. Montross scored an average of 10 points and 4.7 rebounds for Boston in the 1994/95 season, and he did not record a higher average point yield in his NBA time, which lasted until 2002. Montross played until 1996 in Boston, then with the Dallas Mavericks (1996/97), who gave him in February 1997 as part of a player swap to the New Jersey Nets . In the 1997/98 game year he was under contract with the Philadelphia 76ers , in mid-1997 Montross was again released to another team, namely the Detroit Pistons . Detroit became the station where he played most of his NBA games (167), but his playing times remained low compared to his early days in the league. In February 2001, Montross was part of a player swap  that brought him to the Toronto Raptors . In spring 2002 he broke his foot, as a result of which he no longer played a game and at the end of August 2003 he announced the end of his career.

Montross later became a commentator on broadcasts of the University of North Carolina Games.
