Erich Brennecke

Karl Wilhelm Erich Brennecke (born February 5, 1885 in Bockenem am Harz , † August 11, 1967 in Berlin ) was a German geodesist and university professor.

Life

He was the son of the watchmaker Theodor Brennecke and his wife Alwine nee Behrens. He first worked for the Hildesheim government from 1898 to 1902, then he was Landmessereleve for a year and began studying natural sciences at the Agricultural University in Berlin , which he successfully completed in 1905. From 1906 to 1911 he worked as a royal Prussian surveyor at the State Cultural Office of the Rhine Province . After participating in the First World War, he worked from 1919 to 1921 as an assistant to Christian August Vogler (1841–1925) at the Agricultural University in Berlin. At the same time he worked as a lecturer in geodesy and was an observer at the Geodetic Institute Potsdam . At the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin doctorate Erich Brennecke 1921 Dr. phil. The topic of his dissertation was On the adjustment of the Swakopmund-Gobabis triangular chain (German South-West Africa) - in which the triangular angles are observed - which, however, is balanced in directions. A critical investigation . From 1922 to 1928 Erich Brennecke was a full professor for geodesy and surveying at the Technical University of Berlin and subsequently full professor and at the same time at the institute for surveying at Faculty II for civil engineering. After the Second World War, he was Professor of Geodesy and Surveying from 1946 until his retirement at the end of March 1954, and at the same time Dean of Faculty III for Civil Engineering until 1947. In 1950 he also took over the directorate of the Institute for Surveying at the Technical University of Berlin.

Erich Brennecke was one of the founders and first members of the German Geodetic Commission formed in 1950 at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
