Erich Cviertna (born March 16, 1951 in Nový Jičín , Czechoslovakia , † October 5, 2013 in Ostrava ) was a Czech football player and coach .

Player career

Cviertna started playing football in Kopřivnice . In the men's area he played for Aritma Prague , Tatra Kopřivnice and TJ Nový Jičín .

Coaching career

Cviertna began his coaching career as an assistant at Baník Ostrava from 1979 to 1984. He then worked for five years as head coach at VP Frýdek-Místek . In the 1989/90 season Cviertna coached Sigma Olmütz , with whom he reached eighth place in the Czechoslovak league. He then returned to Ostrava as an assistant coach . In the 1992/93 season he coached VP Frýdek-Místek again. In October 1993 he replaced Jiří Dunaj as a coach at FC Kovkor Vítkovice , four game days before the end of the season he was replaced by Jaroslav Netolička .

Cviertna returned to Frýdek-Místek , where he worked until 1998. From 1999 to 2002 he was again an assistant at Baník Ostrava. In the 2002/03 season he got the chance to work as head coach at Baník. After a 0: 1 at 1. FC Brno on matchday 25, the club separated from him, the team was in sixth place.

For the 2004/05 season, Cviertna took over the then third division club FC Hlučín . In October, however, he followed the call of Jozef Jarabinský to become his assistant coach at Baník Ostrava. In January 2006 he inherited his successor Pavel Hajný in Hlučín and stayed there until June 2007.

Cviertna died on October 5, 2013 in Ostrava of complications from a serious illness.
