Erich Holzinger

Erich Holzinger (born June 22, 1930 in Eferding ; † December 11, 2019 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and mill builder. He was a member of the Federal Council from 1983 to 1993 and its President in the first half of 1993.

education and profession

Holzinger attended elementary school between 1936 and 1940 and then from 1940 to 1944 a secondary school. From 1945 he graduated from the technical college for mechanical engineering at the higher technical college in Linz and learned the trade of mill builder and fitter. In 1949 he completed his training. In the year of his apprenticeship he joined his parents' company, where he worked as the company's operations manager from 1960 to 1967. In 1967 he finally became the owner of the Erich Holzinger company, machine factory, mill and plant construction in Eferding. In 1986 he was given the professional title of Commercial Councilor.

Politics and functions

Holzinger began his political career in local politics and was active as a councilor in his home town of Eferding from 1961. He was elected to the city council in 1979 and held this office until 1989. Furthermore, Holzinger was involved in the Austrian Economic Association and was district group chairman of the Austrian Economic Association in Eferding between 1972 and 1992. From 1975 and 1992 he also held the position of chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of the Eferding district office. From 1981 to 1990 he worked as a deputy section chairman of the trade and crafts section of the Chamber of Commerce for Upper Austria, from 1990 to 1997 he was section chairman of the trade and crafts section of the Upper Austria Chamber of Commerce . In addition, from 1972 he was chairman of the supervisory board of Volksbank Eferding.

Holzinger represented the Austrian People's Party between May 19, 1983 and June 30, 1993 in the Federal Council and was President between January 1, 1993 and June 30, 1993.
