Helmut Frauscher

Helmut Frauscher (born May 20, 1934 in Salzburg ; † June 9, 1994 in Tenerife ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and businessman. From 1970 to 1979 he was a member of the National Council and from 1980 to 1993 a member of the Federal Council and three times its President.

Life

After elementary school, Frauscher attended the Academic Gymnasium in Salzburg and passed the Matura there. He then studied from 1952 to 1955 at the University of World Trade in Vienna and graduated in 1955 with the academic degree Dipl.-Kfm. from. Frauscher was subsequently in 1955 as an independent businessman and entrepreneur working, part time, he studied 1966-1969 political science at the University of Salzburg , where the 1969 he Dr. rer. pole. PhD. From 1958 to 1979 Frauscher was the managing partner of A & O Handelshof Salzburg and Frauscher & Zumtobel KG in Salzburg. From 1971 he also led the company C & C Großmarkt Salzburg as managing director.

Frauscher was involved as the regional chairman of the Austrian Economic Association, where he held this position between 1970 and 1982. Furthermore, from 1970 to 1980 he was head of the food wholesale trade in Salzburg and councilor of the Chamber of Commerce for Salzburg. In 1986 he took over the office of regional chairman of the Salzburg Seniors' Union and was also active from 1987 to 1991 as regional chairman of the Salzburg relief organization. Furthermore, from 1989 he was Federal Deputy Chairman of the Austrian Aid Organization. Frauscher represented the ÖVP between March 31, 1970 and June 4, 1979 in the National Council. He was then a member of the Federal Council from July 1, 1980 to October 19, 1993, where he was its chairman between July 1, 1984 and December 31, 1984 and again between January 1, 1989 and June 30, 1989 as well held the office of President of the Federal Council from July 1, 1993 to October 19, 1993.
