Erich Hubala

Erich Hubala (born March 24, 1920 in Kremsier , East Moravia ; † January 8, 1994 in Munich ) was a German art historian . He held the chair for Middle and Modern Art History at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .

Life

Hubala grew up as the son of the high school teacher Franz Hubala and his wife Anna in Kremsier. In 1939 he passed his Abitur. He spent the years 1941 to 1947 in military service and as a prisoner of war. After his return from captivity, he began studying art history in Vienna . In 1951 he became an obelisk with his work Zier obelisken , which was supervised by Hans Jantzen . PhD studies on architecture of the 16th century .

Hubala then became Hans Sedlmayr's assistant at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1969 he was full professor at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . In 1974 he followed the call of the University of Würzburg , where he held the chair for Middle and Modern Art History until his retirement . Since 1989 he has been a corresponding member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .
