Erich Kruzycki

Erich Kruzycki (born February 18, 1911 in Danzig ; † August 28, 1993 in Göttingen ) was a German athlete who was German champion in the 10,000-meter run in 1951 .

Erich Kruzycki began his sporting career as a footballer at Prussia Danzig . As a member of the Navy, he belonged to sports clubs in Wilhelmshaven , and in the 1930s he was active as a long-distance runner for Frisia Wilhelmshaven . After returning from captivity after the Second World War, he started for SC Victoria Hamburg from 1950 . Via SC Dahlhausen he then moved to Göttingen, where he was successful as a senior athlete at SC Göttingen 05 and LG Göttingen .

During his successful time in the active class, Kruzycki was already 40 years old and started for SC Victoria Hamburg . In 1951 he finished third in the German championship in the forest run. In 31: 45.2 minutes he won the 1951 championship title over 10,000 meters. On New Year's Eve 1951 Kruzycki started the Corrida Internacional de São Silvestre , the New Year's Eve run in São Paulo, and won this race as the only German man to date (as of 2010). In 1952 Kruzycki again finished third in the forest running championship. Kruzycki went to São Paulo at the end of the year to defend his title, but had to give up his start due to an angina.

For his sporting success at the Silver Run in Sao Paulo in 1951, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on January 22, 1952.

In 1975 he went back to São Paulo at the invitation of the Brazilian Athletics Association and won the classification in his age group. In 1977 in Gothenburg, Kruzycki won the senior world title over 5000 and 10,000 meters as well as in cross-country in the individual and in the team competition. Two years later at the Senior World Championships in Hanover, he defended his four titles from Gothenburg and also won the 1,500-meter run.

With a height of 1.69 m, his competition weight was 55 kg.
