Erich Lassota von Steblau

Erich Lassota of Steblau (* 1550 in Upper Silesia ; † 1616 in Kosice ) was a German officer and diplomat and sample master of Upper Hungary .

Life

Erich Lassota von Steblau was probably born in Bleischwitz near Leobschütz or Blaschewitz in the 1550s . He came from an old Silesian noble family and was Roman Catholic. He attended grammar school in Görlitz in 1567 and later studied at the University of Leipzig and from 1573 to 1576 at the University of Padua . After his return from Italy in 1576, he lived on his father's estate. He took part in the struggles of Philip II of Spain for the conquest of Portugal and stayed in 1585 at the court of Emperor Rudolf II . In 1588 he succeeded Archduke Maximilian of Austria, who was captured by Poland. In 1590 he was intercepted by the Swedes on a diplomatic mission to Russia and kept in captivity until 1593. In 1595 the emperor appointed him model master of Upper Hungary with residence in Košice for his multiple services. He held the office until at least 1604. He died there in 1616.
