Erich Leitow

Erich Leitow (born April 6, 1926 in Ilten ; † May 3, 2003 in Braunschweig ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending school, Leitow completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and then worked in this profession. From 1943 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier , most recently as a non-commissioned officer. At the end of the war he was taken prisoner.

After his release from prisoner-of-war, Leitow initially trained as an interpreter and, since 1948, studied education. From 1952 to 1956 he worked as a teacher in Klein Stöckheim . He had also joined the Education and Science Union (GEW).

politics

Leitow had been a member of the SPD since 1946. Leitow belonged to the German Bundestag from August 3, 1956, when he replaced the late MP Otto Ziegler , until 1957. He was drawn into parliament via the Lower Saxony state list. Since October 1956 Leitow was a full member of the Committee for Civil Service Law, the Committee for Cultural Policy and also a full member of the Committee for Post and Telecommunications. In the subsequent general election, he was unable to move into the Bundestag again.
