Erich Manegold

Erich Christian Friedrich Manegold (born February 17, 1895 in Höxter ; † January 25, 1972 ibid) was a German chemist and professor at the Technical University of Dresden . He was a specialist in colloid chemistry .

Life

From 1919 Manegold studied chemistry at the universities of Göttingen and Hamburg. He obtained his doctorate in 1923 in Göttingen, where he then worked as an assistant. He completed his habilitation in 1929 at the University of Göttingen with Richard Zsigmondy and taught there from 1929 as a private lecturer. In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler .

Manegold went to the TH Dresden as an associate professor in 1935. As the successor to Alfred Lottermoser (1870-1945), he became a full professor at the TH Dresden in 1937 at the Institute for Colloid Chemistry and head of the institute of the same name. During the Second World War , he dealt with the complete use of plant substances, which was essential for the war effort.

From 1945 Manegold worked as a freelance scientist in his hometown of Höxter and held an extraordinary professorship at the Technical University of Aachen from 1961 to 1970 . He died in Höxter in 1972.
