Erich Schmidt-Schaller

Erich Otto Schmidt-Schaller , also Erik (born January 10, 1889 in Schöneberg , † February 24, 1980 in Täby , Sweden ), was a German painter and graphic artist.

Life

Erich Schmidt-Schaller was the son of Ministerialrat Hugo Rudolf Schmidt and his wife Fanny Constanze, née Schaller.

First he studied with Max Kruse and Ferdinand Koska , from 1911 to 1913, and then from 1919 to 1921 at the Weimar Art Academy with Otto Franz Ludwig Rasch , Fritz Mackensen and Theodor Hagen . For a short time he was also a student of Paul Klee and Lyonel Feininger at the Bauhaus in Weimar .

After several study trips (Austria, Italy, France and North Africa) from the mid-1920s, he emigrated to Sweden, where he settled in 1929 and worked as a painter and graphic artist. He mainly made watercolors or etchings with Swedish and North African landscape motifs.

Schmidt-Schaller was married to Davida Charlotta, née Henriksson (1888–1975). His grandson is the actor Andreas Schmidt-Schaller .

His grave is in the church cemetery in Vessige, Falkenberg municipality .
