Erich Streuber (born April 28, 1895 in Roßlau ; † June 13, 1989 in Dessau ) was a German artist.

Life

Erich Streuber was born on April 28, 1895 as the son of a construction technician in Roßlau. A scholarship from the Porse Foundation enabled him to study at the School of Applied Arts in Dessau from 1913 to 1914, which was followed by studies at the Art Academy in Weimar, where he was a student of Walther Klemm and Fritz Mackensen . From 1915 to 1918 he was a soldier in the First World War and was then a prisoner of war in England until 1919. From 1920 to 1922 he studied as a pupil of Kay H. Nebel at the art academy in Kassel, where he graduated with a drawing teacher examination with a diploma in education.

From 1924 he worked as a teacher at the School of Applied Arts in Dessau and three years later sat in on Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky at the Bauhaus Dessau . In 1933 he was transferred to Zerbst as a teacher. Five years later he started working as an art teacher and freelance painter in Ballenstedt. He did not return to Dessau until 1964. The artist died in June 1989 at the age of 94.

Streuber was represented at exhibitions in Kassel, Dessau, Magdeburg, Halle, Quedlinburg, Eisenach, Nordhausen, Ballenstedt, Mühlhausen. In 1996 the Streuber memorial room was opened at Ballenstedt Castle.
