Erich Truckenbrodt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erich Truckenbrodt (born February 1, 1917 in Hermsdorf ; † December 21, 2009 ) was a German fluid mechanic .

Life

After attending the then new high school with natural science teaching content, he began studying aeronautical engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig , graduating in 1940 with a Dipl.-Ing. after three years.

This was followed by a job as a design engineer at Junkers aircraft and engine works . The doctorate took place in 1945 with the topic The flow around rotating bodies with axial flow and the habilitation in 1953 at the Technical University of Braunschweig. After the war, Truckenbrodt worked in a German engineering group at Sud Aviation and Heinkel Flugzeugbau . From August 1957 to 1982 he took over the management of the 2nd chair for mechanics at the Technical University of Munich . which in 1966 was rededicated to the Chair of Fluid Mechanics due to the stronger fluid mechanics of his work . From 1964 to 1966 he was the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and shaped the structure of the aerospace engineering course . In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit .

Two important calculation methods in aerodynamics go back to him, the Truckenbrodt wing method and the Truckenbrodt boundary layer quadrature method .

He was a member of the Academic Fliegergruppe Braunschweig .
