Erich Voigt (born February 25, 1905 in Halle (Saale) ; † 1962 ) was a German communist resistance fighter against National Socialism , a prisoner in the Lichtenburg and Buchenwald concentration camps and employee of the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR .

Life

Voigt came from a working class family in Halle . After the First World War he joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and became involved against the emergence of National Socialism . After the transfer of power to the NSDAP , he was taken into “ protective custody ” and sent to the Lichtenburg concentration camp. In 1938 he was transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp and was given the prisoner number 2729. He was assigned to the “ prisoners kitchen ” work detail and was employed as a kapo . There he participated in the prisoner resistance . So sometimes he risked giving the " prisoners' office " work detachment plenty of lunch. He also organized help with feeding the Soviet prisoners of war , who only received starvation rations.

When the Nazi rule was eliminated, Voigt became active in the newly formed police forces, joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and worked in the GDR Interior Ministry. He also took part in the remembrance policy of the liberated prisoners by publishing his experiences from the camp. In 1957 he wrote a report "Groceries through the barbed wire", according to which he and his comrades smuggled additional food into the camp of the Soviet prisoners of war. In 1958 he wrote a report "The SS enriched themselves with the prisoners' meals".
