Erich Winter

Erich Winter (born July 14, 1928 in Vienna ) is an Austrian- German Egyptologist and emeritus professor at the University of Trier .

Erich Winter studied at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1952. In 1965 he received the Cardinal Innitzer Prize . Winter completed his habilitation in Egyptology in 1968 . In 1977 he was appointed to Trier , where he remained until his retirement. Winter is a corresponding member of the philosophical-historical class abroad of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a full member of the German Archaeological Institute . Since the mid-1970s, the project Edition of Hieroglyphic Temple Inscriptions by Philae of the Austrian Academy of Sciences has been implemented under his direction in Trier .
