Erik Heil

Erik Heil (born August 10, 1989 in Berlin ) is a German sailor in the 49er class .

Erik Heil and his crew Thomas Plößel from the North German Regatta Club were German youth champions in the 420 class in 2005 and U19 champions in the 470 class in 2006 . They have been competing in international regattas in the 49er class since 2011. In their first international year, they finished 7th at the European Championship and 11th place at the World Championship. In 2012 they finished seventh at the World Cup. In 2013 they won their first World Cup regatta off Palma de Mallorca, and at the 2013 European Championships Heil and Plößel received the silver medal. The following year they won the Champions Sailing Cup in Kiel and won the European championship. In 2015 he was sixth at the European Championship and fifth at the World Championship. In the pre-Olympic regatta, they came in third. In 2016, Heil and Plößel finished eighth in the world championship.

Erik Heil and Thomas Plößel were part of the German team for the 2016 Olympic Games ; in Rio de Janeiro they won the bronze medal. For this they were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Joachim Gauck on November 1, 2016 .

Erik Heil is a sports soldier in Kiel .
