Erik Mattson (born December 18, 1990 in Toronto ) is a Canadian volleyball player .

Career

Mattson began his athletic career at Sir John A. Macdonald High School in Scarborough . There he first played hockey in 2005/06 before becoming a volleyball player. From 2006 to 2008 he was part of the Provincial Team in his native Ontario . In 2008 he received several awards as the best U18 player. In the same year he began his training at the University of Alberta . With the university team "Golden Bears", the Libero won the CIS championship in its first season . In 2009 he also won the silver medal at the Canada Summer Games . In addition to his career as a player, Mattson also worked as a youth coach on the Grass Roots Volley project. In 2013 he was named the best Libero of the year by the CIS. He was then signed by evivo Düren after the previous Libero Blair Bann recommended his compatriot to the German Bundesliga club as his successor. In 2014 Mattson moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga SVG Lüneburg . In 2015 he was in the DVV Cup final with Lüneburg . In 2016 Mattson moved to VK Prievidza in Slovakia .
