Erika Steinke

Erika Steinke (born August 31, 1905 in Minden ; † December 13, 2005 ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1954 to 1966 she was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

Erika Steinke was born in Minden and grew up in Herford , where she went to a lyceum after elementary school , today's Queen Mathilde Gymnasium . After finishing school, she attended a technical teachers 'seminar in Bielefeld and then from 1926 to 1933 she was employed as a technical teacher at the Protestant girls' school in Paderborn . After her marriage and the birth of two children, she and her husband moved to the Sudetenland .

In 1945 Steinke fled back to Herford after being expelled via Czechoslovakia and Austria. There she became involved in the concerns of refugees and displaced persons, from 1946 headed a sewing room of the evangelical relief organization in Herford and in 1947 became chairwoman of the displaced persons' advisory board and the organization of the city of Herford.

Steinke was involved in the CDU in various party groups and bodies, for example she was a member of the Herford CDU district executive , first chairwoman of the Herford women's union, member of the state executive committee of the women's union in North Rhine-Westphalia and district chairwoman for East Westphalia, as well as a member of the CDU's committee for expellees . In 1948 she became a councilor in Herford. In the state elections in 1954, 1958 and 1962, Steinke was elected to the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament via the CDU state list; she was a member of parliament from July 13, 1954 to July 23, 1966. Steinke was a member of the board of trustees of the Haus des Deutschen Ostens foundation . For her, as it was said in the founding of the order, “unselfish work for the benefit of the refugees and displaced persons in Herford, in the Westphalian region and in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.” Steinke was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class by Federal President Heinrich Lübke . She died on December 13, 2005 at the age of 100.
