Eriosyce garaventae is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Chilean co-founder of the La Campana National Park, Augustinus Garaventa.

Eriosyce garaventae grows with spherical to elongated, grass-green to blue-green shoots and reaches a diameter of 6 to 12 centimeters. The fibrous roots emerge from a short taproot . There are eleven to sixteen ribs that are deeply notched. The rather thick thorns are straw yellow. The one to six upwardly curved central spines are 2.5 to 4.5 inches long. Twelve radial spines are formed.

The funnel-shaped, light yellow flowers become reddish towards their base. Occasionally there is a reddish median strip. They are 3.5 to 5 centimeters long and up to 4 centimeters in diameter. The elongated, yellowish fruits are hollow and up to 2.5 centimeters long. They open with a basal pore.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Eriosyce garaventae is common in the Chilean region of Valparaíso in the higher elevations of Cerro La Campana . It was first described as Horridocactus garaventae in 1959 by Friedrich Ritter . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
