Eriosyce marksiana is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Eriosyce marksiana initially grows with flattened spherical to almost spherical, later elongated gray-green shoots and reaches a diameter of 12 to 24 centimeters. The parting is bare. The roots are fibrous. There are 16 to 28 ribs that are sunken above and below the areoles . The thick, grayish brown thorns have a darker tip and are 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters long. The one to six central spines are not flattened and strongly curved upwards. Some of the eight to twelve lateral spines are directed upwards.

The funnel- to bell-shaped flowers are lemon yellow to sometimes reddish yellow. They are 3 to 4 centimeters long and have the same diameter. The brownish red to greenish fruits are fleshy. They are up to 1.5 inches long and open with a basal pore.

Distribution and systematics

Eriosyce marksiana is distributed south of Santiago de Chile to the Río Maule in the foothills and the foothills of the Andes . It was first described as Pyrrhocactus marksianus in 1960 by Friedrich Ritter . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .

A distinction is made between the following varieties :
