Eriosyce recondita is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet recondita means '(Latin reconditus) hidden, hidden'.

description

Eriosyce recondita usually grows individually with almost spherical to spherical, gray to dark green shoots and reaches a diameter of 2 to 10 centimeters. The root is an often heavily thickened taproot . There are 10 to 13 ribs that are notched to form cusps . The areoles on it are often sunken. The thin thorns are needle-like. The one or two central spines are 1 to 1.5 centimeters long, the six to ten radial spines 5 to 10 millimeters long.

The funnel-shaped flowers are white to slightly pink to yellow and appear from young areoles. They are 1.5 to 4 inches long and 2 to 3.5 inches in diameter. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with wool and sometimes with bristles. The elongated fruits open with a basal pore.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Eriosyce recondita is common in the Chilean regions of Tarapacá and Antofagasta in coastal areas. It was first described as Pyrrhocactus reconditus in 1962 by Friedrich Ritter . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .

The following subspecies are distinguished:

  • Eriosyce recondita subsp. iquiquensis (F.Ritter) Katt.
  • Eriosyce recondita subsp. recondita

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
