Benjamin of Amaudruz
Benjamin von Amaudruz (also: Amaudritz , Amaudrütz ; * 1735 in Lausanne ; † March 31, 1797 in Elbing ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .
Life
origin
Benjamin was the son of Johann Claudius Amaudruz from Lutry .
Military career
Amaudruz was initially in the Dutch service. When the army was downsized in 1748, on the recommendation of the Duke of Braunschweig Karl I, he was employed in Prussian service as a second lieutenant in the free battalion "von Lüderitz" . Here he became captain and leader of the battalion on November 10, 1761 . In 1762 he was entrusted with a special task. King Friedrich II had ordered all cattle in Saxony to be confiscated and had given this task to his brother Heinrich . Heinrich passed the order on to his commanders with the remark that they should be particularly clever and careful. Amaudruz got the hint and made so much fuss with his commission that the Saxons had time to get a lot of cattle to safety. He was therefore able to report that there wasn't much cattle to be found in Saxony. Amaudruz came to the Infantry Regiment "Lestwitz" No. 32 on March 31, 1763 after he had served as captain and company commander in the Freikorps "von Becquignolle" three months earlier and became a major here on September 19, 1770 . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On May 24, 1781 Amaudruz was lieutenant colonel and on May 23, 1783 colonel and on January 25, 1784 regimental commander. For his services, he was knight of the order Pour le Mérite on September 29, 1787 .
On May 19, 1789, the king appointed Amaudruz Major General and shortly afterwards Chief of Regiment “Egloffstein on Foot” No. 4 . From April 1792 he ran the business as a brigadier of the West Prussian light troops with a bonus of 500 thalers . He gave this position to General von Pollitz in March 1794 and took part in the 1794 campaign against Poland. On November 2, 1794, he was the Corps Favrat allocated and transported here on January 6, 1795 to lieutenant general.
family
Amaudruz married Johanna Sophie Friederike, née von Thelen , on January 26, 1772 in Neisse . After her death he married Christina Luise Elisabeth von Taupadel (* 1744, † February 4, 1793 in Kittelau). She was the widow of the district administrator von Brauchitsch . Both marriages remained childless.
