history

The building cooperative Gartenstadt eGmbH , founded in 1909, built the first houses from 1914. The Protestant residents were initially looked after by the Mundenheim Christ Church . After the First World War , the population continued to grow, so that in 1922 a separate pastoral care district was set up. Construction of the church began in 1930. It was integrated into an assembly that included a pastor's apartment, a children's school and a children's and old people's home. On November 15, 1931, the Church of the Redeemer was inaugurated.

The church windows were dented by the pressure wave from the tank car explosion at BASF in 1948. They have been replaced and the interior has been renovated. In 1955 the organ and the exterior plastering were renovated. In 1969 and 1994 further renovations took place. In 2011 the three Protestant congregations in the garden city, the Redeemer, the Johannes and the Trinity congregations, merged into one congregation.
