Erna Fuehrer

Erna Fuehrer (* 1898 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † 1981 in Braunschweig ) was a German doctor.

Life

Fuehrer made up his Abitur and studied human medicine at the Albertus University in Königsberg . She was trained by Professors Arthur Böttner and Felix von Mikulicz-Radecki . After graduating as a Dr. med. (1941) she settled in Königsberg as a general practitioner . Under Soviet rule since April 1945, she worked tirelessly for the countless sick people and worked under the most difficult conditions in the largely destroyed Hospital of Mercy. She was called the "Angel of Königsberg". In 1948 she was the last German doctor to leave the city. In the same year Hildegarde Haslinger became a doctorexpelled from Kaliningrad . In 1950 Erna Fuehrer opened a general medical practice in Braunschweig . On May 10, 1954, she was the first female doctor in Braunschweig to receive the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
