Erna Hennicot-Schoepges (born July 24, 1941 in Dudelange ) is a Luxembourg pianist and politician .

Life

After finishing school, Hennicot-Schoepges studied musicology , literature and philosophy . She became a university teacher for music in Luxembourg. She later hosted a radio show on Radio Luxembourg .

From 1989 to 1995 Hennicot-Schoepges was President of the Chamber of Deputies ( Chambre des députés ). Jean Spautz succeeded her as President of Parliament .

Hennicot-Schoepges was party chairman of the Christian Social People's Party from 1995 to 2003 . Her successor was François Biltgen .

From January 1995 to 1999, she was Minister of Education, Minister of Culture and Minister of Education in the Juncker-Poos government. In the subsequent Juncker-Polfer government, she was Minister of Culture, Minister for Universities and Research and Minister for Public Buildings between 1999 and 2004. In addition, she was Minister Delegate for the Francophonie during both mandates.

From 2004 to 2009 she was a member of the European Parliament .
