Erna Lang

Erna Louise Margaretha Lang , b. Demuth (born June 30, 1892 in Hamburg ; † May 18, 1983 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German KPD functionary.

The kindergarten teacher Erna Demuth was politically active in the SPD from 1910 to 1916 . During the November Revolution of 1918, she was one of the leading members of the Hamburg Workers 'and Soldiers' Council under the name Erna Halbe . In 1919 she co-founded the KPD in Hamburg, in 1920 its women's secretary for the Wasserkante district, 1922 political director of the Magdeburg district, and from 1924 to 1927 head of the women's department at headquarters. In 1929, she was from the KPD excluded .

She first went to the KPO , then in 1932 to the SAPD . In 1934 she emigrated to Czechoslovakia, in 1937 to France, and in 1940 to the USA. In 1941 she married Joseph Lang . In 1950 she returned to Germany. Erna Lang became a member of the SPD again in Frankfurt am Main and head of the Sachsenhausen-West group. Until 1954 she was an employee of the International Rescue and Relief Committee in Frankfurt.
