Ernestine Tahedl

Ernestine Tahedl (* 1940 in Ried in der Riedmark ) is an Austrian painter, graphic artist and glass artist.

Life

Tahedl was born in Ried in der Riedmark, Upper Austria, and studied from 1955 to 1961 at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna with Carl Unger and Franz Herberth. From 1961 to 1963 she worked with her father Heinrich Tahedl on the artistic design of glass windows.

She has lived in Canada since 1963 and works in her studio near Toronto. Her works are in the possession of public and private collections and galleries in Canada, the United States, France, Austria, Switzerland, Japan and Croatia. She designed numerous public and private orders for glass windows, including for the Expo 1967 in Montreal, Canada.

Since 1963 she has participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe, the United States, Japan, China and Canada. Since 1963 she has had solo exhibitions in Vienna, Austria; New York, United States and numerous cities in Canada. A comprehensive retrospective, organized in 2006 in the Varley Art Gallery of Markham, Unionville, Ontario, Canada, was expanded in 2012 and shown in the Lower Austrian Documentation Center for Modern Art, St. Pölten, Austria, and in the Moderna Galerija, Zagreb, Croatia. In 2016 an exhibition entitled Collected Works took place in the Vienna Künstlerhaus.
