Ernesto Herrera
Ernesto Herrera (born March 20, 1889 (also 1886 and 1887 are sometimes mentioned as the year of birth) in Montevideo , † February 19, 1917 there ) was a Uruguayan dramatist .
Life
Herreras, who is also seen as Florencio Sánchez 's successor , began his creative phase in 1910 with the melodrama Mala laya , which was written in one day for a fee of 50 pesos. During a stay in Europe he wrote El estanque in Madrid . At the age of 22 he then created the drama El león ciego, which is important in the context of Uruguayan literature . Shortly before his death, Herrera, who was often ailing during his lifetime, returned to Montevideo, where he was diagnosed with advanced tuberculosis. He eventually died in the Fermín Ferreira Hospital in his hometown. His life's work only appeared 50 years after his death.
