Ernesto Ledesma , full name Ernesto Sebastián Ledesma , (born October 23, 1930 , † January 19, 2011 ) was a Uruguayan football player and coach.
Player career
The offensive player called "Cholo" Ledesma, whose position on the field is specified as that of an "eight" according to the old game system, began his football career in ranks of Danubio . He then moved to Peñarol in 1953 , where he was initially used in the reserve. Ledesma played at the end of the 1950s (the timing is not possible due to the different sources) at Universidad de Chile and Portugesa . He then belonged from 1960 to 1961 and - only interrupted by an interim engagement with the Montevideo Wanderers - again from 1964 to 1966 of the Peñarols squad in the Primera División , which was supervised by the coaches Roberto Scarone and Roque Máspoli in those years . In 1960, 1961, 1964 and 1965 he won four national championship titles with the Aurinegros . Also in 1960 and 1961 secured Ledesma with his club trophy in his time yet as Copa Campeones de América designated Copa Libertadores . Ledesma was not used in both finals against Paraguay's representative Club Olimpia in 1960 . In the finals of the following year against Palmeiras São Paulo , however, he completed both games. Another title win in 1961 is the World Cup . Ledesma played both the return and play-off against Benfica Lisbon . 1965 was for Peñarol again to participate in the finals of the Copa Libertadores , in which the Uruguayan club but this time had to give the Argentine representative CA Independiente the trophy. Ledesma started playing in all three finals. In the two title wins of the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup of 1966, he also did not take part in the finals. Ledesma finally retired in 1966 after suffering numerous injuries.
Coaching
After his active career, he briefly held the post of coach at Peñarol in 1969. Initially active as an assistant coach at the Aurinegros , he took over the interim head coach role on May 31, 1969 after the resignation of Rafael Milans . On July 28, 1969, however, he was replaced by Oswaldo Brandão . He also later acted as a player's agent.
