Ernesto Pascal

Ernesto Pascal (born February 7, 1865 in Naples , † January 25, 1940 ) was an Italian mathematician.

Pascal's family had French roots. He studied at the University of Naples , where he obtained his diploma (Laurea) in 1887. He then studied for another two years at the University of Pisa and the University of Göttingen , where he came into contact with Felix Klein . After his return he became professor of analysis in Pavia and from 1907 professor at the University of Naples. There he founded an Institute for Analysis (Cabinet for Differential Calculation, later Institute for Applications of Analysis).

Pascal wrote, among other things, a repertory of higher mathematics (Italian 1898 to 1900, German from 1900) and developed a mechanical integration device.

He was a member of the Accademia dei Lincei and the Istituto Lombardo .

Renato Caccioppoli is one of his PhD students .
