Ernie Cunliffe
Ernie Cunliffe (actually William Ernest Cunliffe; born September 2, 1937 in Long Beach , California ) is a former American middle -distance runner who specialized in the 800-meter distance .
In 1959 he was fifth at the Pan American Games in Chicago , and in 1960 he reached the semifinals of the Olympic Games in Rome .
At the Pan American Games in São Paulo in 1963 , he won bronze.
In 1961 and 1964 he was US indoor champion over 1000 yards . He set his personal best over 880 yards of 1: 47.3 min (corresponds to 1: 46.6 min over 800 m) on April 2, 1960 in Fresno .
