Ernsdorf is an old district and former core of today's Kreuztal town center in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district , North Rhine-Westphalia .
It was first mentioned in documents as "Erinstorff" in 1417/19 and was also the seat of the mayor at the time of the Confederation of the Rhine .
The community Ernsdorf belonged to the Ferndorf district . It was renamed Kreuztal on March 17, 1928 due to the growing infrastructural importance of the Littfe , Ferndorf and Hees crossroads.
In Ernsdorf, in a listed brick and half-timbered building, there is the former cabaret "Old Fire Station", which is now used as a privately owned senior citizens' home. Furthermore, the "Stollenhaus", which is also under monument protection , can be found on Marburger Strasse, as well as the Kronprinz-Friedrich-Wilhelm-Erbstollen opposite and one of the two bus stations in Kreuztal; the subterranean shaft and tunnel system leads to the Hilchenbach district of Müsen .
The German entrepreneur Friedrich Flick (1883–1972), who was born in Ernsdorf, is an honorary citizen of the city of Kreuztal, who was controversial because of his role as a leading armaments manufacturer in the Third Reich and who was convicted as a war criminal .
