The Ernst Grube Medal was awarded by the German Gymnastics and Sports Association (DTSB) of the German Democratic Republic , which was donated in 1958 and awarded until 1961. Until the end of its award, it was considered the DTSB's highest honor. Her successor in 1961 was the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Medal . The medal with a diameter of 36 mm is silver-plated and shows the head portrait of Ernst Grube on its obverse in front of a red enameled workers' flag, the tip of which extends beyond the edge of the medal. Under his portrait on the right side lies a branch of laurel bent upwards. The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest, the clasp was covered with a dark red ribbon. A 4.5 mm wide black, red and gold central stripe is woven into this band on both sides, starting with the color black 3 mm from the hem. The enamelled coat of arms of the DTSB is also placed between the national colors. The interim brace was of the same quality.
