The Ernst-Ludwig-Brunnen is a fountain and monument in Darmstadt .
History and description
The Ernst-Ludwig-Brunnen stands at the location of the "Villa in Rosen", which was destroyed in an air raid in 1944 , the residence of Eugen Bracht (and previously of Hans Christiansen ).
The fountain system consists of a semi-circular relief wall made of red sandstone around a stepped water basin . It was part of a pavilion designed by Otto Bartning .
At the 1958 world exhibition in Brussels , the city of Darmstadt acquired the fountain by the sculptor Karl Hartung . The fountain system was set up in 1959 on Alexandraweg . The inauguration took place in 1965 with the installation of a plaque in honor of the last reigning Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig .
