Ernst-Alfred Thalmann (born April 8, 1881 in Basel ; † September 23, 1938 ibid) was a Swiss footballer , lawyer , politician and art collector .

biography

Ernst-Alfred Thalmann, son of a teacher, attended primary school and the humanistic grammar school in Basel. He then studied law at the Universities of Basel , Berlin and Paris . In 1902 he received his doctorate in Basel. iur. From 1904 he was a legal advisor and lawyer in Basel and was considered a specialist in commercial legal protection and stock corporation law . He sat on the boards of directors of Ciba , Weyer-Bank, Lederimport AG, Rheinische Rückversicherung, Tabakcompagnie AG and other companies and was a member of the Basel Chamber of Commerce .

Thalmann played football successfully in his younger years and was a member of the Swiss national team . Between 1898 and 1904 he played for FC Basel for six years and scored six goals in a total of 26 appearances. Between 1900 and 1915 he also presided over the association for a period of around ten years.

Thalmann belonged to the radical democratic party . From 1911 to 1937 he took a seat in the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt . From 1928 to 1935 he represented his canton of residence in the Council of States . From 1929 he was President of the Board of Trustees of the University of Basel.

As an art collector, Thalmann was also a commissioner for the public art collection . In 1931 Coghuf created a portrait of Thalmann
