Ernst August Hellmuth from Kiesenwetter

Ernst August Hellmuth von Kiesenwetter (born November 5, 1820 in Dresden , † March 18, 1880 ibid) was a German entomologist .

Kiesenwetter was a lawyer, studied in Leipzig until 1843 and was a secret councilor in Bautzen from 1856 , later in Dresden. He was also an insect collector, mostly from beetles, and began publishing as an entomologist in the 1840s.

In 1857 he published the beetle section in the natural history of insects in Germany . He collected in Greece and Spain and published on the beetle fauna of Japan and the Amur region.

His beetle collection is in the Zoological State Collection in Munich and his collection of hymenoptera and bugs in the Museum für Tierkunde Dresden .

Honors

In 1866 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
