Ernst Behrens (born November 5, 1878 in Glückstadt ; † August 8, 1970 in Elmshorn ) was a Low German local poet and writer . He wrote amusing stories, the topics of which came mostly from his closer home.

Life

Ernst Behrens was born on November 5th, 1878 in Glückstadt. After attending school and training, he worked for Elmshorner Kreditbank from 1894 to 1899, then at the local court and as a savings bank counter-accountant. Afterwards he was city ​​auditor of the city of Elmshorn for 20 years and a member of the city council until 1933. Because of his membership in the SPD , he had to give up this activity during the Nazi era . He died in Elmshorn in 1970.

Honors and commemorations

In 1953 Ernst Behrens was appointed honorary mate of the Elmshorn home association “Tru un fast” . He was the first citizen to receive the silver medal from the city of Elmshorn; He was also awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class . In Elmshorn, Uetersen and other places, streets are named after Ernst Behrens. In the local history museum “Konrad-Struve-Haus” in Elmshorn there is an “Ernst-Behrens-Stube”.
