Ernst Braun (born January 18, 1915 in Calw ; † April 4, 1992 ) was a German local politician and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit .

Ernst Braun had been mayor of Liebelsberg since June 27, 1947 , which was merged with other municipalities to form the city of Neubulach as part of the municipal reform on January 1, 1975 . In addition, he was from February 21, 1955 Mayor of Wenden and from October 6, 1972 Mayor of Oberhaugstett .

As a result of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg , the mayor’s offices that had been exercised expired by law. However, Braun remained in Wenden "mayor administrative administrator".

In the mayoral election of the newly founded city on March 9, 1975, he achieved 53% of the votes and thus prevailed against the previous mayor of Neubulach Dietmar Nittel. He thus became mayor of the entire city until 1983, when he left office at the age of 68 when he reached the age limit.

At the 40th anniversary in public service in 1979 (including 32 years as mayor) it was found that Braun was one of seven mayors of the 1,100 municipalities of Baden-Württemberg who were already in office on June 27, 1947. The period of service includes the duration of the draft for military service, which is given as 8 years.

The town council of Neubulach made him an honorary citizen when he retired on January 31, 1983. According to the content of the honorary citizenship certificate, “Mayor Braun has made a special contribution to the successful integration of all parts of the city into the entire city of Neubulach”.

During Ernst Braun's term of office, investments totaling DM 30.4 million were made in the budget years 1975 to 1982. The respective through-roads were expanded in all districts. 7.3 million DM alone were accounted for by the cost of purchasing the land, "where it was most useful for further development."

Braun was a member of the district council in the district of Calw from 1959 to 1984 , of which he was temporarily president . There he belonged to the parliamentary group of the Free Voters' Association. In addition, he was chairman of the Liebelsberg waterworks association for more than 35 years, to which he contributed his commercial training. He also chaired the Teinachtal municipal administration association from 1975 to 1982. Finally, in 1975 he was chairman of the school association.

Ernst Braun's life achievement was recognized in 1980 by Federal President Karl Carstens with the award of the Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
