Ernst David Wagner

Ernst David Wagner (born February 18, 1806 in Dramburg , † May 4, 1883 in Breslau ) was a German composer , music director , organist and music teacher .

Life

Ernst David Wagner first attended the teachers' seminar in Cöslin before completing his musical studies at the Royal Music Institute in Berlin from 1830 under, among others, August Wilhelm Bach . He then took over the work of organist and cantor at St. Matthew's Church in Berlin and had been organist and choirmaster at the Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Berlin) , which was destroyed by air raids in the Second World War, from 1848 , where he was appointed Royal Music Director in 1858 .

Particularly important among his compositions is his work Musical Ornamentation , which is also a reference work for all kinds of older ornamentation methods in the field of vocal and instrumental music. He also worked as a music teacher and was among other things the editor of a children's piano school and the arranger of other educational works as well as an opera album with works by important composers.
