Ernst Eggimann
Ernst Eggimann (born April 23, 1936 in Bern ; † June 16, 2015 near Arles , France ) was a Swiss writer and teacher. He was best known for his laconic, onomatopoeic poems in Bernese dialect .
Life
After high school, Ernst Eggimann attended the teaching college at the University of Bern . From 1960 he was a secondary teacher, first in Bümpliz and then in Langnau im Emmental .
In the early 1970s, he caused a sensation beyond the Emmental with a Bern German poem about green cows. His dialect spelling was modeled on the sound. A playful, rhythmic lyric was created, which often put the language itself at the center. This inspired exponents of the free music scene to set the poems to music. Many spoken word poets describe Eggimann as the forefather of their art. The NZZ called him a word musician .
In addition to poems, he also published numerous prose texts, wrote several pieces for the stage and dialect radio plays for Swiss radio.
Ernst Eggimann was one of the founders of the Olten Group and was a member of the Association of Authors of Switzerland (AdS).
From 1986 to 1997 Ernst Eggimann was a member of the cantonal parliament and for some time the parliamentary group president of the Green Free List .
In his presence in Langnau in 2012, the Ernst-Eggimann-Weg was inaugurated in his honor.
